Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo fight Sunday at the Mandalay Bay for the World Boxing Council World Super Welterweight Title.
Tony Harrison enters this fight with a 28-2 record that includes 21 knockouts. Harrison has won seven of his last eight fights, and he’s coming off a December win over Charlo. Harrison is coming off a huge upset victory where he was a +850 underdog, and he won by unanimous decision despite the fight being close throughout. Harrison will now defend his new belt for the first time. Harrison is 28 years old, stands at 6’1”, has a 76.5-inch reach and an orthodox stance. Harrison relied heavily on defense and counterpunching in the first meeting, as he made Charlo miss often and responded nearly every time his opponent decided to be aggressive. Harrison has a nasty jab that is extremely quick, powerful and lands nearly every time, an elite weapon that he should look to use more. Harrison had a very good game plan going into the first meeting and he should look to duplicate it. Work behind the jab, keep those hands up defensively and make Charlo pay for every punch he throws. This will be Harrison’s third career fight in Nevada.
Jermell Charlo enters this fight with a 31-1 record that includes 15 knockouts. Charlo has won five of his last six fights, and he’s coming off a December loss to Harrison. Charlo is coming off his first loss of his career in what was his fourth title defense, so it’s going to be interesting to see what adjustments he makes. Charlo was very upset after the loss and thought he did enough to keep his belt. Charlo is 29 years old, stands at 5’11”, has a 73-inch reach and orthodox stance. Charlo landed some nice punches throughout the first bout and even had Harrison a little shaken at times to where you thought things could end at any moment. The problem is Charlo spent a lot of time head hunting and looking to land that one big shot that never came. Charlo also displayed little to no head movement, getting tagged way too easily and it played a roll in the scorecards. Charlo has to be sharper if he’s going to win this bout. This will be Charlo’s eighth career fight in Nevada.

Less than a month after a controversial win for Tony Harrison, the new WBC super welterweight champion has been ordered to have a rematch with Jermell Charlo. The former champion was considered to be the aggressor throughout the full twelve round title fight, but the judges would see it differently, as Harrison would sweep the scorecards 116. Sat, Dec 21, 2019; On Saturday, December 21 at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, USA Tony «Super Bad» Harrison will meet Jermell «Iron Man» Charlo for WBC title in a 12-round super welterweight fight. Charlo doesn't seem to have full control of his emotions when Harrison is around and that doesn't bode well for the 29-year-old from Houston, Texas. Charlo, like his twin brother Jermall, the WBC middleweight champion, is huge at the weight and it might be that getting down to 154lbs is taking its toll on his 5ft 11In frame.
Charlo has a lot of improving to do if he’s going to win this fight. Charlo has to focus more on boxing and picking his spots rather than landing the big punch and getting rocked in the process. Head movement should be what Charlo focuses on this camp, as he was far too stiff in the first fight, and it’s hard to win when trading punches all night. Get in and out, move your head. Charlo’s team needs to wake up. Harrison gave Charlo a boxing lesson in the first fight and has to be considered for the plus money. Harrison is also the bigger fighter with a longer reach, so a lot of what happened in the first bout could be repeated. With that said, I’m going to side with Charlo to win the rematch. He made the first fight extremely close and would have won if he simply showed an ounce of head movement and patience offensively. Those aren’t that difficult to improve with smart guys around you.
Charlo should win this fight.
